Class Registration and Scheduling

FIRST-YEAR-STUDENTS: Academic advising occurs during the Future Saint Friday and virtual registration events. (Future Saint Friday INCLUDES the registration event). Every first-year student must attend ONE of these Schedule Planning and Registration events where you will learn about Carroll College's undergraduate degree requirements, how to plan your schedule of classes, and begin the registration process. You will find each event listed in the Upcoming Events section of this web page, above, with links for you to sign up for your preferred session. Remember: the earlier you attend, the earlier you register for classes. And, the earlier you register, the more likely it is that you will get into courses you prefer.

TRANSFER STUDENTS: Transfer students will work closely with your Admissions Counselor and the Assistant Director of Academic Support to 1) evaluate your previous coursework, 2) transfer credits to your Carroll College transcript, 3) plan appropriate courses for Fall Semester, and 4) register for courses.

NOTE: Be aware some steps need to be completed before you can register for classes, including completing the Academic Questionnaire, submitting your official college transcripts for transfer evaluation, and logging into your Carroll College Student Account.

  • Full-time tuition is based on a 12-19 credit-hour schedule.
  • As a first-year student, transitioning to college, we recommend 12-15 credits if at all possible. Some major areas of
study require 17 credits the first semester.
  • To graduate from Carroll College in four years, you need to average 15.25 credits per semester.

Throughout the summer you will be able to schedule advising appointments during which you will be able to work with an advisor to make changes to your schedule.

  • Carroll College students can declare UNDC for three semesters before formally declaring their major. If you truly are undecided, this is the best option.
  • UNDC with STEM interest should plan CORE 110, CO 101 (or a foreign language), TH 101 and a philosophical reasoning course, plus a math or science class at their placement level (14-16 total credits).
  • UNDC with non-STEM plans should register for CORE 110, CO 101 (or a foreign language), TH 101 and a philosophical Rrea- soning course plus a history or social science class that will fulfill core distribution requirements (15 total credits).

All first-year full-time students will follow the same process for registering described above.

Courses & Transferable Credits

  • If you submitted your offical college transcripts a minimum of five full business days prior to this event, your Carroll transcript should reflect your transfer equivalencies.
  • Check the “Timeline” view in student planning to see your transfer credits appear in the semester you earned them.
  • Check the “My Progress” view to see what requirements you have fulfilled through your transfer credits.

Yes. If you are an Honors Scholar, you must register for HNR 150 in place of CORE 110.

Register for ENWR 101 for your first semester and also for an FYC section that fulfills a core requirement. This will set you up for a better chance at success when you take CORE 110 in the Spring semester of your first year.

FYC stands for First-Year-Cohort. Your FYC classmates will all be first-year-students in their first semester of college, and your FYC professor serves as your advisor for the first semester. You can only be in one FYC section.

  • If your four-year plan suggests taking BI 121, BI 122, or BI 123 you can take any one of these courses your first semester. The introductory biology lectures are independent courses and one is not pre-requisite to the others.
  • You will take all three eventually, in any order that works for your schedule.
  • You will also want to take a biology lab. You can take BI 131 or BI 132 in any order, and along with any lecture.

Please leave a complete note in your “Advising” tab, and an advisor will contact you and help you get into the correct math place- ment. We offer pre-calculus each spring semester so you will likely take that next spring.

Yes. You need to be in HNR 150 as your first-year seminar and you also are required to take CO 101 with Brent Northup, and his CO 101 section is an FYC section. This is the ONLY exception to the one FYC policy.

  • Those who took chemistry and algebra in high school take CH 101 + CH 101L.
