In addition to developing fluency in medical Spanish, students build cultural literacy, creative and analytical thinking, empathy, and active listening—core competencies for effective, compassionate care. They also learn to be resilient and flexible by navigating emotionally challenging clinical scenarios, language barriers, and health disparities with professionalism and purpose. The Carroll College Nursing and Spanish program allows students to participate in real-world engagement through immersion experiences or internships, where students must adapt their communication strategies, respond to unexpected clinical demands, and work effectively across cultures and disciplines.

About the Program
This interdisciplinary pathway prepares graduates to thrive in fast-paced, multicultural healthcare environments, where their ability to connect with the Spanish-speaking community and respond thoughtfully to complex human needs sets them apart as future-ready professionals.
Combining my nursing major with Spanish for Health Professions courses has significantly impacted my education in a positive way. These courses have not only strengthened my Spanish language skills but have also expanded my understanding of diverse cultures. As a result, I have become a more culturally competent and empathetic person — qualities that are essential to providing high-quality, compassionate nursing care.
