Adoptable Dogs & Animals

Anthrozoology Dog on Mat

Adopt a Program Animal

Class of 2026

The curriculum within Anthrozoology canine coursework is centered around students learning canine physiology, health, ethology, operant and classical conditioning, applied behavior analysis, animal sheltering, culture and conflict, olfaction, therapy, and service work, as well as identifying possible career objectives. Anthrozoology student handlers work and live with their adoptable dog during the academic year.

Our adoptable animal program does not produce working animals or therapy/service animals. At the end of the academic year, they become lovely companion animals. Each student walks away having had a unique experience impacting their understanding and perspective of the human-animal bond.

A part of the process involves sharing videos and photos with the public via social media, and screening potential adopters. In the Spring, Students interview potential adopters of their program animals. The choice of adopter is based on compatibility, looking for the best home to suit the dog’s needs.

Please note, there is no guarantee a program animal will have the skills and interest to go onto more rigorous training - beyond Carroll College for service work. Animals are selected based on their temperament, and capacities to learn in the campus environment.

Canine Graduation is in late April or early May. This celebration is open to the public and all adopting families. We are thankful for all the local humane societies that have partnered with us!

Important information:

  • All of the animals belong to their respective regional shelters.  Potential owners will go through the shelter’s specific adoption process.
  • Contact us - If you would like more information about the Anthrozoology program, contact us at anz@carroll.edu.
  • For information about a specific dog, see the contact information that accompanies each animal's bio. If you are interested in adopting, please fill out our adoption application, and we will get back to you within a week.
  • One way to provide substantial support for Anthrozoology’s canine program is through a $2,500 donation to sponsor a shelter animal for one year. Please contact Major Gifts Officer Kathy Ramirez at kramirez@carroll.edu  or (406) 447-4445 if you’d like to talk about this or other ways to support our hard work!

Haze

Haze

Hey there — I’m Haze!

I am a Domestic Short Hair with style, confidence, and a birthday around 3/25/25 (if you want to mark your calendar). I’ve got a sleek coat, a sharp mind, and a soft spot for making biscuits — lots of them. Oh, and I’m fully litter box trained — I like to keep things classy.

I’m a social, curious guy who loves attention, adventure, and a good snuggle once I’ve finished exploring. I get along great with other cats and enjoy hanging out with dogs — as long as they remember I’m a cat, not a chew toy. I can totally keep up with the big dogs, but I like to set the pace.

Kids? Sure — as long as they know what personal space means and can respect a cat’s right to a nap. I settle in fast, love meeting new people, and I’m not shy about showing off my confident walk.

If you’re looking for a cat with personality, presence, and world-class biscuit-making skills, I’m your guy.

Oreo

Oreo

Oreo is a four-year-old black lab mix with a mellow and loving personality. He adores people and children, always greeting them with a wagging tail and pretty brown eyes that win everyone over. Oreo enjoys daily walks in the park, where he can sniff around and explore. Playtime is a favorite for him, especially games of tug-of-war. When the fun is done, Oreo loves nothing more than curling up for a long nap or chewing on his bone.

HEAR YE HEAR YE! Meet Princess!

My name says it all — I have a royal personality fit for a Princess like myself! I’m looking for the perfect kingdom to call my own. I love nothing more than taking a big royal flop into laps or curling up in one of my many beds (a girl needs options, after all). Belly rubs from my loyal “knights” are always appreciated! I adore my “subjects,” big and small, dog or human — my foster mom says I don’t have an aggressive bone in my body, just 50% floof and 50% cuddle bug.

I’m a young girl of only 9 months who loves exploring new lands — from the Mermaid Lagoon (the creek) to Princess Park (named after me, of course), chasing off evil beasts (squirrels, birds, and deer) wherever my paws take me! My foster mom suspects I’ve got some herding breeds in my royal blood, so I’ll thrive with fun training and plenty of exercise. Every Princess needs help maintaining her luscious locks, so regular brushing and pampering are a must.

If you’re ready for a loyal, loving, and energetic royal companion, I’m your pup!

Ziggy

Ziggy

Hey there, I’m Ziggy!

I’m a 1.5-year-old Lab/Pointer mix (birthday 5/15/24 — don’t forget!) and I am what the humans call “an all-around good boy.” I weigh 59 pounds, I’m goofy, I’m cuddly, I’m fast, and I fit perfectly in laps — yes, even if you don’t think so yet. Give me a toy and I’ll show you my best parade march. Give me all the toys and I’ll love you forever.

I LOVE other dogs and my foster mom isn't sure if I'm good with kids or not yet! She thinks I definitely will fit right in with older kids and possibly younger! Cats? Not sure yet. Squirrels and rabbits? Ohhh buddy… that’s where my zoomies activate. I’ve got a strong prey drive — what can I say, I was born for adventure.

I’m looking for a family who wants a snuggle buddy, a playmate, and a personal comedian all in one. If you’ve got treats, toys, and a lap, I’ve got love, joy, and wiggles.

Think we’re a match? I’ll be waiting with a toy in my mouth and my tail going thwap thwap thwap.
