A native of Spokane Washington, Laura Kohler is a 2007 civil engineering graduate. While at Carroll Laura was active in theatre and president of a student service organization called Engineers Without Borders (EWB).

In May 2007 nine members of Carroll College's student chapter of EWB embarked on their first international service project, traveling to the Santa Maria del Méxicano orphanage in the state of Queretaro, Mexico, to replace an open sewer with a modern treatment system. Laura was a leading member of the team.

B.A. Philosophy 2015

I graduated in Fall 2015 with a degree in philosophy. My philosophy thesis was entitled,An Investigation of the Self as relational and the propensity for evil produced from indifference towards human relationships. Provoked by Albert Camus’ The Stranger, this thesis explores the connection between evil and indifference towards human relationships. Relying heavily on Hannah Arendt and Simone De Beauvoir, I offer an understanding of the self as relational and then explore how an indifference towards human relationships leads to a higher propensity for evil.

Rogie King is a internationally-known speaker, mobile/web designer, illustrator and front-end developer. His specialties include web, logo and icon design, JavaScript/jQuery, CSS/HTML,  and illustration.

I am currently a data scientist at The Boeing Company in Seattle, Washington, where I utilize data to build predictive models and provide analytical solutions. I have contributed to areas such as sensor data analysis, text mining maintenance messages, and customer behavior modeling. I would like to thank Carroll College's math and computer science department for giving me the necessary skills of applied computational mathematics which has opened many doors and which I still use to this day.

During his time at Carroll, Chemistry major Myunghoon (Hoonie) Kim (class of 2014) worked with Dr. Caroline Pharr on the design, synthesis, and characterization of novel organic molecules that have potential applications in new technologies.  During that time he was awarded four ARES (Awards for Research in Engineering and Science) grants from the Montana Space Grant Consortium, which he used to pay his way to a national conference and to be compensated for his time working as an undergraduate researcher.

Majoring in theology has allowed me to come into contact with people who are all passionate about Christianity and strive to grow in their own understanding of their faith through interactions with one another.

Mark Johnson, ’98, graduated from Carroll College with a degree in History for Secondary Education and taught for 8 years at Concordia International School in Shanghai, China. As a social studies teacher, he utilized his Montana roots and the “habits-of-mind” which he learned at Carroll College to develop an inquiry based approach to teaching, helping students develop skills of critical thinking, problem solving, analysis and interpretation while using research methodology to seek answers to historical events.

As a Senior Software Engineer, I lead the design and development of a couple of software applications for internal research and development. The application domain consists of Android applications, custom software defined radios and web services (such as HTTP, AJAX, JQuery). I am also responsible for briefing prospective customers as well as internal directors.

Carroll College was a place where I not only grew academically, but also has a whole person. The rigorous classwork challenged me and at the same time showed what I was capable of. I was lucky enough to have so many experiences during my time at Carroll, such as traveling to Chicago to serve and help in a struggling community, a yearlong internship at Helena Food Share, and participating in multiple community events. By being a double major in both Health Sciences and Public Health, I was given the opportunity to see all aspects of Carroll’s Health Science Department.
