CAMP's Spring Break Adventure 2025

Spring Break Adventure

The Carroll Adventure and Mountaineering Program (CAMP) ventured south in search of warm weather and outdoor adventure for its annual spring break trip. This year, 18 participants, including Director of Campus Recreation Brad Maddock ’12, embarked on the journey.

The trip kicked off in Fruita, Colorado, known for its world-class mountain biking, scenic hikes, and excellent rock climbing. Over three days, students explored the area’s extensive trail systems and took in the rugged beauty of the high desert.

"This was the first CAMP spring break trip that I attended, and not only were there some great opportunities to mountain bike, climb, and hike but we were surrounded by people who loved to do those things and supported each other. It was a great trip to join! "

~ Kaylee Broderick, junior, Palm City, FL

Next, the group packed up their tents and headed to Arches National Park, just outside Moab, Utah, where they spent the remainder of their trip. Students hiked to iconic arches, marveled at the park’s striking rock formations, and rode the renowned slickrock mountain biking trails nearby the park. Beyond outdoor recreation, they also gained an appreciation for the region’s unique desert ecosystem, learning about its flora, fauna, and geological wonders.

"This was my third time on the CAMP spring break trip and it never gets old. Every year I learn something new, try something difficult, and get to meet the kindest and most fun people!"

~ Olivia St. Marie, junior, Renton, WA

One of the most cherished aspects of the trip was the sense of community built around the campfire each evening. Participants shared stories, reflected on their daily experiences, and bonded over “happies and slappies” (highs and lows of the day). The trip was not only an adventure but also an opportunity to forge new friendships and create lasting memories in the great outdoors.
