Catholicism in the 21st Century: Faith, Reason, and Religious Difference
Carroll College welcomes Dr. Francis Beckwith for a three-day residency as the inaugural speaker in the Thomas R. Flynn Lecture in Philosophy series. Funded through Fr. Flynn’s endowment to the Philosophy Department, the annual series explores the relationship between philosophy and faith in keeping with Carroll’s mission of integrating faith and reason.
During his visit, Dr. Beckwith will present:
- Public Lecture: Liberalism and the New Draw of the Confessional State
- Student Seminar: God and the Natural Law
- Faculty Seminar: Why Muslims, Christians, and Jews Worship the Same God: A Thomistic Answer
The educational objective of this residency is to foster thoughtful discussion about religious belief in contemporary society and American public life, with particular attention to current national conversations about faith, politics, and religious difference.
Dr. Beckwith is Professor of Philosophy and Church-State Studies at Baylor University and an Affiliate Professor of Political Science.
