About

Alex Cochell graduated from Carroll in 2019 with Bachelor’s Degrees in International Relations, Political Science, and French (and an Associate’s Degree in India Studies). While at Carroll, Alex traveled to India and Morocco for studies and service. After studying abroad in Morocco, Alex was inspired to write his capstone and senior thesis on the dispute over Western Sahara, specifically focussing on potential media subversions carried out by the French government.

Upon the verge of graduation, Alex received notice that he had been selected to receive the National Security Education Program (NSEP) David L. Boren Scholarship. With this scholarship, Alex is spending the 2019/2020 school year in Jaipur, India, where he is studying linguistics in Hindi (his third language) as well as general Indian culture for the purpose of benefitting US national security. Upon his return to the states, he has committed to working for at least one year in the government, though he intends to work much longer than this. His ultimate goal is to work as a diplomat for the US government.

I am extremely thankful for my education in French here at Carroll. I knew that learning a second language is of a growing importance in our globalized world."
