Global Learning at Carroll College

As a Catholic college and a Catholic Relief Services Global Campus, we are persuaded that we must educate global citizens who will walk in partnership with the poor and marginalized; work to end inequality and poverty; take seriously the stewardship of our earth and environment, and make a firm commitment to tackle and help solve some of the biggest issues of the 21st century.

Carroll students gain global competencies through high-impact global learning experiences including internships, research, volunteering, service-learning, and study abroad programs.  To explore all of Carroll's global learning opportunities, click on the Study and Serve Abroad: Explore and Apply button on this page.

Study Abroad

Study Abroad linkOur Global Learning Office coordinates over 150 exchange programs that allow you to study abroad for a semester or a year in exchange for an international student coming to our campus. Carroll College also sponsors long-term, medium-length, and short-term study abroad experiences, including faculty-led travel seminars each year to different destinations. This wide variety of options makes studying abroad possible, regardless of major.

Although many students include a semester-long study abroad within their four-year plan, a long-term study abroad can extend the college career for some students.  If this is a concern, there are many short-term programs available during the winter and summer breaks!

Traveling to Mexico with Dr. Strode and the other students was an incredible opportunity that I'll be reflecting on for a long time. I'm so grateful for all of the people we met and how easy it was to speak with everyone, even with some language barriers! A lot of what I was able to experience on this trip was thanks to the Carroll College Hispanic Studies and Languages program and the skills that these classes have taught me.

Service Abroad

Nationwide, students are increasingly choosing service as a way to gain global skills and experience. Here at Carroll College, our students are choosing international service at five times the national average – It’s What Saints Do!

Experiential, community-engaged placements abroad offer expansive learning opportunities for undergraduate students. They also come with unique challenges not present in traditional study-abroad practice settings. The Forum on Education Abroad is the standard-bearing agency providing guidelines and standards of best practice for global learning opportunities for undergraduate students. Carroll College vets programs and only recommends providers that meet all of the standards of best practice.
