The Hunthausen Center for Peace and Justice (CPJ) kicked off the academic year with its first Service Saturday on September 26, bringing together approximately 51 student volunteers (who represented a wide range of class years and academic disciplines) and three faculty and staff members for a morning of service in the Helena community.
The day began with breakfast in the All Saints Chapel lobby, followed by an inspiring send-off led by Karleigh Grant and the Ecumenism ministry, featuring prayers from three Christian traditions.
Volunteers then spent two hours serving eight local organizations: Florence Crittenton, Family Promise, Helena Pointe, Options Women’s Clinic, Habitat for Humanity ReStore, The Friendship Center, Good Samaritan Thrift Store and Helena Food Share. An additional group of four volunteers, led by Sydney Forrey, continued their service by helping serve lunch at God’s Love.
Following their volunteer shifts, students gathered for lunch and reflection, sharing their experiences, insights and the ways their service made a difference.
Thank you to all the students, faculty, staff and community partners who made this meaningful day possible!
Save the date! The next Service Saturday is November 21, when volunteers will help local organizations prepare for the holiday season.
