A Life of Service, Spirit, and Unmatched Love for Helena and Carroll College
Carroll College mourns the passing of Peter W. Sullivan ’57, a cherished alumnus whose generosity, leadership, and devotion to his community earned him the affectionate title “Mr. Helena.” Peter passed away at age 90, leaving behind an extraordinary legacy of service that touched organizations throughout Helena, including Carroll College, where his impact will be remembered for generations.
Peter carried a profound and visible love for Helena. His time, talent, and philanthropic support strengthened countless charities and civic organizations and helped shape the community they cared for so deeply. A lovely tribute to Peter’s life may be found at the Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home website.
A proud member of the Class of 1957, Peter remained closely connected to Carroll throughout his life. In 2016, he received the Carroll College Luminary Award, recognizing the many ways he brought light to the community through his unwavering support of non-profits. At Carroll, his generosity was felt across the campus. He supported student scholarships, nurtured the success of Carroll Theater, and was a committed champion of Fighting Saints Athletics and the stadium project.
Athletic Director Charlie Gross reflected on Peter’s passing. “Peter Sullivan was a devoted friend and strong advocate of the Fighting Saints, whose unwavering spirit and generosity will be deeply missed. A true supporter of Carroll Athletics, Peter leaves behind a legacy of loyalty, evident in the countless athletic events he proudly attended and the gracious financial support he provided to strengthen our teams. More than that, he was an energetic and engaged presence. He took a genuine interest in our student-athletes and coaches, offering encouragement, conversation, and community wherever he went. Peter’s dedication to Carroll student-athletes will be felt for years to come.”
Peter’s zest for life, his commitment to service, and his unshakeable loyalty to both Helena and Carroll were defining traits that inspired all who knew him. His presence in the stands at athletic events, his warm conversations on campus, and his steadfast belief in the power of community helped shape the culture of Carroll in ways that will be long remembered.
