The Nursing Partners in Health program is a community-focused initiative for 200-level nursing students. This program allows students to enhance their clinical skills through hands-on experience by conducting comprehensive, four-dimensional assessments of healthy senior citizens.
Over the course of three visits, students address the physical, psychological, sociocultural, and spiritual dimensions of their healthy partners, building confidence, deepening their understanding of assessment, and fostering therapeutic communication. Healthy partners, in turn, enjoy contributing to the education of future nurses while forming meaningful intergenerational connections.
Earlier this week, the students hosted a thank-you reception to honor the seniors who participated in the program. During the event, they shared their reflections with the attendees:
Effort and consistency are the key to mastering a skill. Anyone can become a professional in their field if they are willing to put in the practice. Thank you for giving up your free time and allowing us to practice. Because of you, we are one step closer to achieving our goal of becoming great nurses. - Clara Genger, sophomore from Belmont, MA
Your kindness strengthened the foundation of our education, and your willingness to help will ripple forward into the care we provide for others. - Lauren Maykovich, sophomore from Monroe, WA
Dr. Zuleyha Inceoz, Ph.D., MBA, MA, BSN, RN, led this year's program.
