CC-EWB Receives Grant from the Diocese of Helena for Guatemala Project

Carroll Engineering Students in Guatamala

To help continue the important work being done by Carroll College’s Engineers Without Borders in Guatemala, the Foundation for the Diocese of Helena recently awarded CC-EWB a grant in the amount of $4,785.27. This grant funding will be used for the continuation of the retrofit structural walls project at the La Asuncion school located in Santo Tomas La Union, Guatemala.

CC_EWB had completed 18 walls on the library building prior to two earthquakes that occurred in June 2017 (6.6 and 6.8 magnitude). The library building suffered no damage but the other buildings did. They raised funds during their Lenten Campaign (spring 2018) and spent $40K to repair damage to the other buildings using the methods they learned from our EWB demonstration project efforts (2012 to 1018).

This grant was generously supported to continue our efforts and assess the reparation work that was performed. To learn more about the Foundation, its grant program and endowments, please contact the parish office or Jeanne Saarinen at the Foundation, 406-389-7051, or jsaarinen@diocesehelena.org.
