During Lent, students in Carroll’s Health Sciences program participated in their annual “Forty Days of Food” project, collecting one food item per day to support Helena Food Share.
The initiative began in Associate Professor Kelly Parsley’s Introduction to Health Sciences course. “When students learned about food insecurity and how so many in our community struggle to have enough food, it was clear that we could help,” said Professor Parsley.
Students focused on items for children who receive weekend food backpacks, gathering granola bars, raisins, boxed mac and cheese, applesauce, and more. This week, they delivered 358 pounds of food to Helena Food Share’s Lewis Street pantry.
“Every year, I am so overwhelmed by the kindness of our students,” Parsley said. “But I should never be surprised.”
