Carroll Hosts 15th Annual Mountain Moot Conference

On July 9–11, Carroll College hosted the annual Mountain Moot Conference. Conceived and created by Dan Case ‘88, Carroll’s Director of Academic Technology, the conference was originally designed to bring nationally-ranked pedagogy and technology training to Carroll faculty. Now in its 15th year—all of which have been proudly hosted by Carroll—the Mountain Moot has grown into a vibrant community of returning presenters, vendors, and educators.

This year, more than 130 participants attended 44 sessions on topics ranging from active learning and teaching for neurodivergence to best practices for online education, innovative grading methods, and the evolving role of AI in the classroom.

In addition to workshops and interactive sessions, this year’s Mountain Moot featured a keynote presentation by Dr. Jason Neiffer ‘97 of the Montana Digital Academy. The Mountain Moot encourages collaboration, with built-in social activities and layers of traditions, gamification, and coffee breaks. Bringing together a diverse audience, from developers, to instructional design specialists, to classroom instructors, approximately a third of attendees were first time “Mootineers.” As education faces fast-paced changes and rapidly evolving technologies have led to existential questions about the role that educational institutions serve, the Mountain Moot community provides a mix of Monday-ready solutions and supportive collaboration. As always, Carroll College faculty and staff attend for free.
