Called to Peace Connects Carroll and Community

Cam Ferguson presenting

Faculty from Carroll College’s history, theology, and philosophy departments including, Drs. Jeanette Fregulia, Elvira Roncalli, John Ries, Eric Meyer, Katherine Greiner, and Cameron Ferguson, led a Lenten series titled Called to Peace, this past February and March.

Coordinated in partnership with Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, Saint Mary Catholic Community, and Carroll College, the series explored how sacred scripture, Church teaching, and spiritual practice shape a Catholic vision of peace in a complex world.

Held on Monday evenings throughout Lent, the sessions included topics such as The Bible and Peace, Popes John XXIII and Paul VI on Peace, The Just War Theory, Pope Leo XIII and Peace, and Spirituality and Peace. Organized by Dr. John Ries as part of his role as the Hunthausen Professor of Peace and Justice, the series is a strong example of Carroll extending its academic strengths beyond campus by sharing faculty expertise, fostering dialogue, and engaging the broader Helena community in meaningful reflection on faith and peace.
