Carroll Hosts 2nd Annual Emergency Responder Day
In early August, Carroll College welcomed members of the Helena Fire Department for the second annual Emergency Responder Day, an initiative designed to strengthen campus-community ties and bolster emergency preparedness.
The event, led by Jay Nelson, Director of Campus Security and Public Safety, served as an informative orientation for local emergency responders to gain insight into the Carroll campus environment. Following a welcome by Vice President Kathleen O’Leary, who shared context about campus demographics, including student, faculty, and staff presence and international representation, attendees participated in a guided campus tour led by Nelson.
The tour highlighted key areas and protocols relevant to emergency response, with a focus on improving coordination between Carroll’s security team and local first responders. It also provided an opportunity for mutual learning and dialogue around best practices in safety planning.
Jay Nelson, with over 25 years of experience in law enforcement, has been instrumental in enhancing Carroll’s emergency operations and communication strategies. His leadership ensures that Carroll continues to refine its safety protocols and maintain strong relationships with local agencies.
