Alumni Sweethearts Spotlight: The Bucks

The Bucks

For Amy (Allen) Buck ’12 and Chanler Buck ’09, Carroll College was more than a place to earn a degree — it was where their shared story began.

Drawn to Carroll for its strong academics, close-knit community, and opportunities for personal and professional growth, both Amy and Chanler found exactly what they were seeking — and each other. Amy arrived in Helena pursuing a rigorous path in the pre-health sciences, eager to be part of a team and a campus community that would both challenge and support her. Chanler transferred to Carroll after experiencing its welcoming culture firsthand and feeling an immediate sense of belonging across campus.

Their Carroll years were marked by the familiar balancing act of demanding coursework, campus involvement, and meaningful friendships. From late-night study sessions and cheering on classmates at events to outdoor adventures around Helena, the experiences they shared helped shape not only their college journey, but the life they would build together. Through it all, Carroll’s guiding motto — Not for school, but for life — became a theme that continues to resonate for them today.

Now living in Powell, Wyoming, Amy and Chanler are raising their two daughters, Margo and Remi, and embracing the outdoor lifestyle of the region. Family time often includes camping, hiking, skiing, and fishing — creating new traditions while holding tight to the values they developed during their Carroll years.

Both have carried those values into careers rooted in service and leadership. Chanler serves as an assistant principal and award-winning athletic director, supporting students and athletes in their academic and personal growth. Amy works as a family medicine physician assistant, caring for children and families in her community and making a difference through compassionate healthcare.

Athletics played an important role in their Carroll experience as well. Chanler’s decision to transfer was influenced in part by the sense of community surrounding the Fighting Saints football program, while Amy’s time in basketball fostered lifelong friendships and lessons in teamwork, resilience, and leadership. Carroll’s vibrant athletics culture remains one of the many ways students connect and build lasting bonds on campus.

Looking back, the Bucks credit Carroll with shaping both their relationship and their purpose.

Their advice for today’s Saints:
Find your village. Find your why. Never stop learning and serving others.

As they continue to build their life together — as partners, parents, and professionals — Amy and Chanler Buck remain a testament to the enduring power of a Carroll education and community.

Not for school, but for life.
