Immigration Law and Catholic Social Teaching: A Panel Discussion with Dr. Alex Street; Bishop Austin Vetter; Andrea Sweeney, Esq.; and Dagim Degaro

The panel will explore the historical, political, moral, and legal questions and complexities regarding immigration policies in the United States. Dr. Street will talk about the historical context of immigration law in the United States and the way communities are affected as laws change. Bishop Vetter will talk about immigration in light of Catholic Social Teaching, specifically talking about the US Bishops' November letter on immigration. Andrea Sweeney is an immigration attorney with Big Sky immigration, a nonprofit in Missoula. She will offer more of a boots-on-the ground perspective from her experience as a legal professional. Dagim Degaro will offer his personal story of navigating the immigration system in the United States.
