Eric began teaching GIS classes at Carroll in the fall semester of 2015. Over the past eight years, he has provided instruction for GIS database design, spatial analysis, raster analysis, and introductory classes. He has also been a guest lecturer for the Business Marketing class. His current classes are GIS 120-Introduction to GIS in the fall, followed by GIS 230-Advance GIS Analysis in the spring. 

When not providing GIS instruction to Carroll students, Eric serves as the GIS Coordinator for the Lewis and Clark County / City of Helena GIS team. Over the past 18+ years he has been responsible for the maintenance of core Enterprise GIS features as well as enterprise databases utilizing SQL Server. His current role has him managing and supervising the GIS program, and coordinating the development, implementation, maintenance, support, and use of spatial information throughout the city and county enterprise. One of the ongoing projects he is most excited about includes the development and deployment of the local government GIS Web services. 

Eric holds a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Urban Forestry/Resource Management from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and a Masters in Landscape Architecture (MLA) from Ball State University, Indiana. Eric’s other work experience in GIS includes:

  • 1.5 years as the GIS Coordinator for the City of Marshfield, Wisconsin. 
  • 6.5 years as the GIS Manager for Cascade County, Montana, and 
  • 1ongoing year as a GIS Specialist for South Carolina Parks, Rec. & Tourism
