Faculty & Staff Positions
Faculty Positions
Carroll College, a private liberal arts college located in Helena, Montana, invites applications for multiple full-time, tenure-track faculty positions in the Department of Social Work, with primary responsibilities in the fully online Master of Social Work (MSW) program. Established in 2021 and fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) in 2024, Carroll’s MSW program is experiencing continued growth and expansion as it prepares clinically trained social workers to meet behavioral health workforce needs across Montana and the broader United States. Appointments are expected at the assistant professor rank; however, candidates with qualifications appropriate for appointment at a higher rank are encouraged to apply.
Carroll’s MSW program emphasizes direct clinical practice with individuals, families, and groups and is delivered in a flexible, fully online format designed to support working professionals. The program’s curriculum is grounded in trauma-informed and resilience-focused practice and emphasizes evidence-based decision making, integrated and interdisciplinary approaches, and leadership in complex service systems. Students benefit from a learning environment that prioritizes accessibility, engagement, and meaningful connection to practice. Learn more about Carroll’s MSW program atwww.carroll.edu/msw. The ideal candidate will bring clinical practice experience in behavioral health or related fields and demonstrate the ability to prepare students for clinical practice and licensure. The program is intentionally designed to balance flexibility with meaningful faculty and peer engagement, including synchronous learning and immersive intensive experiences.
While relocation to Helena is preferred to support integration with the campus community, remote arrangements may be considered for candidates able to accommodate required travel. Currently, faculty are expected to travel to campus for in-person intensives, as well as hooding and commencement ceremonies. The program, however, is reevaluating the frequency of faculty travel to campus to best support student learning, foster meaningful engagement, and maintain program quality; as a result, travel expectations may evolve over time.
The ideal candidate will contribute to a collaborative and student-centered program and demonstrate excellence in teaching, scholarship, advising, and service. Successful candidates will be committed to inclusive and equitable practice, bring a collegial and collaborative approach to their work, and engage actively with community partners and the broader profession. Consistent with the mission and practice-focused orientation of the MSW program, faculty are supported in pursuing a broad range of professional development activities, including applied scholarship, practice-based contributions, curriculum innovation, continuing education, community-engaged work, and leadership in professional settings. While scholarly engagement is expected, the program does not prescribe a single model of research productivity or traditional publication expectations, allowing faculty to align their professional development with their expertise, practice interests, and contributions to student learning and workforce development. Faculty activity and evaluation are aligned with Carroll College’s criteria for tenure and promotion, which emphasize excellence in teaching effectiveness, professional development, academic advising, professional service to the College, and community engagement.
