EWB Team Continues Work on Guatemalan School

EWB Team in Guatemala holding a Carroll College Flag

The Carroll College Chapter of Engineers Without Borders USA is dedicated to improving the quality of life for people in developing communities worldwide through sustainable community development projects, and preparing future leaders who are well equipped to solve the world's most pressing problems. Students, faculty, staff, and professionals from all disciplines are currently engaged in projects in Guatemala, Uganda, St. Lucia, and Mexico.

Seven Carroll College students (Trey Scofield, Mary Van Dyke, Abigail Dolan, Morgan Shimkus, Dylan Young-Vazquez, and Ian Kirby), a faculty member (Dr. Ryan Hallows, Spanish) and a staff member (Butch Biskupiak) traveled to Guatemala to visit a project at the Asunción School in Santo Tomás La Unión. The school sustained damage following a 7.3 earthquake in August of 2017. The team worked for four days to rebuild and reinforce three walls in the school. They also helped to outline a prioritized plan to repair the rest of the school.

After four days of hard work, the team was able to learn some Spanish and enjoy a couple days of rest and relaxation in beautiful Antigua.
