COVID-19 Update: May 20, 2021

Marching Forward Graphic

Dear Faculty, Staff, and Students,

Carroll’s Marching Forward Task Force met yesterday morning and I want to share with you the recommendations they provided to me and the resulting changes to our on-campus mask policy for this summer.

Due to both the changes in face-covering mandates at the Lewis & Clark County level and in accordance with new recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, our face-covering policy for the summer is as follows:

For those who are fully vaccinated, masks will not be required in college buildings **with the exception of in-person classes.

** In-person summer classes will require that all participants – including faculty and students – wear masks in the classroom. If classes are conducted outside – and a distance of 6-feet between participants can be maintained – than mask usage is not required.

For those who are not vaccinated, masks will continue to be required in college buildings.

Of course, anyone may still wear a mask indoors or outdoors for any reason. The CDC is encouraging people with underlying health conditions to continue to wear masks.

We continue to encourage members of our campus community to get vaccinated. Information about vaccines can be found on the CDC website. Vaccines are currently widely available in our community. Information on where you can obtain a vaccine can be found on the Lewis & Clark County COVID-19 HUB or also at vaccines.gov.

We are so appreciative of our campus community’s efforts to keep one another safe and protected throughout this pandemic. We are starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel and beginning to experience what life can be like following this pandemic if we all do our part.

Stay tuned for a very fun “community immunity” campaign we will be launching very soon for our faculty, staff and students – it involves prizes!

This guidance is for the summer only at this point.

Our Marching Forward Task Force will continue to meet throughout the summer and recommend adaptions to our policies in accordance with guidance from our federal, state, and local officials. We will continue to update our Marching Forward website throughout the summer with our revised policies. We ask for your patience as we work through these changes.

You can continue to direct your questions to our Marching Forward Task Force account at covid19@carroll.edu.

Thank you!
