Adopt-a-Highway Cleanup on I-15

ASCE Highway Cleanup Graphic

On September 26, 2020, students and faculty from Carroll’s American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Student Chapter completed community service work by cleaning up a 2-mile stretch of Interstate 15, about 15 miles south of Helena. Eight students and their faculty advisor coordinated with the Adopt-a-Highway program of the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and completed the cleanup in about 4 hours. MDT provided bags, safety vests, and signs for the job. Safety was priority one – in addition to the equipment from MDT, students wore gloves and face masks because of the COVID-19 threat. Those in the ASCE student chapter taking part were (left to right in photo below): Josh Neth (vice president), Gary Fischer (advisor), Lucas Frank (activities coordinator), Sarah Homberg (president), Iain Scott, Ethan Mancini, David Wassmuth, Sally Vogel, and Chloe Gallagher.
