Carroll gave me the opportunity to travel to Haiti, Ecuador, and Uganda with Montana Dental Outreach. On the trips, we students assisted the dentists with anything that was needed. Sometimes this included running around the clinic gathering supplies that were needed, and sometimes it was directly assisting the dentist with patients. The majority of my time was spent taking blood pressures and other vital signs. I was also with the families that were waiting. Luckily, Carroll professor Jack Oberweiser would bring his guitar on the trip. Jack and us Carroll students would play and sing for the families waiting in line. Sometimes a few patients would sing and play for us!
These experiences have opened my eyes and heart, and have given me a cause to which I will dedicate my life. With my Carroll education as a Health Science major I will become a physician, and dedicate my life to serving the vulnerable, the poor, and the less fortunate, both in my community, and in the world.
