About

2022 update, class of 2016

After graduating from Carroll, I attended Des Moines University, College of Osteopathic Medicine. Carroll College did an excellent job at preparing me for medical school. A degree in Health Science gave me the opportunity to develop a strong foundation in the basic sciences, as well as the freedom to pursue a well-rounded and holistic education that I incorporated into my personal philosophy on medicine and approach to patient care. I was accepted into a residency program for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) in Spokane, WA. I will continue to pursue my passion for working with the vulnerable and disabled community by focusing my future practice on neurorehabilitation after traumatic brain injury and providing continuity care for individuals with cerebral palsy and other brain injury modalities. My experiences and education while at Carroll were vital for my personal and professional growth. The lessons I learned, both inside and outside the classroom, at Carroll laid the foundation for my career in medicine and shaped how I practice as a holistic and compassionate physician.

Carroll also gave me the opportunity to travel to Haiti, Ecuador, and Uganda with Montana Dental Outreach. On the trips, we students assisted the dentists with anything that was needed. Sometimes this included running around the clinic gathering supplies that were needed, and sometimes it was directly assisting the dentist with patients. The majority of my time was spent taking blood pressures and other vital signs. I was also with the families that were waiting.  Luckily, Carroll professor Jack Oberweiser would bring his guitar on the trip. Jack and us Carroll students would play and sing for the families waiting in line. Sometimes a few patients would sing and play for us!
