Department Chair of Theology 

Dr. John Ries is a full professor of theology that holds the Archbishop Hunthausen Professorship in Peace and Social Justice at Carroll College. 

He earned an M.A.in philosophy from St. Louis University and a Licentiate in philosophy from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. He earned an M.A./S.T.L. and a Ph.D./S.T.D. from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven.  His areas of work include: systematic/fundamental theology, philosophical theology, continental philosophy, philosophical and theological ethics, liberation theologies, ecclesiology.

Courses taught: Theological Foundations, History of Christian Thought, Christology, Moral Theology, The God Question, Church and Worship, Liberation Theologies, Theology and Science.
