Jim Carney has served as the Vice President for Finance and Administration and Chief Financial Officer since September of 2025. Carney returned to Carroll after 18 years, where he previously served as Assistant Director for Community Living and taught as an adjunct faculty member.
At Carroll, Carney oversees the Business Office, Facilities, Information Technology, and Auxiliary Services including the Bookstore, Conferencing Services Mailroom.
He served as Chief Financial Officer for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Helena since 2013 and was appointed Chancellor in 2022. Prior to this, he held fiscal leadership roles with the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services, managed nonprofit initiatives, worked in corporate accounting, and served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Guizhou, China.
Carney holds a B.A.in Business Administration from Seattle University and a M.A. in Public Service from Marquette University.
