From designing infrastructure that supports Montana communities to building a career grounded in collaboration and service, Colin Sassano ’23 is putting his Carroll education into action every day. After earning his degree in Civil Engineering Broadfield with a minor in Business Administration, Colin now works as a Civil Engineering Designer at Robert Peccia & Associates (RPA) in Helena, where he helps design and improve water and wastewater systems across the state.
Colin chose Carroll for its tight-knit community, small-school atmosphere, and the opportunity to be part of a winning football culture. Looking back, he says that being both a student and an athlete shaped him in ways that continue to influence his career today.
Rather than pointing to one defining achievement, Colin is most proud of his ability to grow and adapt in a fast-paced professional environment. He credits Carroll with helping him develop perseverance, collaborate with people of different backgrounds and perspectives, and show up as a strong teammate in the workplace.
In his first year after graduation, Colin felt Carroll gave him an advantage through its liberal arts foundation. Beyond technical coursework, he found that the emphasis on communication and writing skills prepared him to stand out in the civil engineering field.
When reflecting on the people who influenced his journey, Colin says it is difficult to name just one. Instead, he credits the entire Carroll community including teammates, coaches, professors, and classmates for helping shape who he is today.
“Carroll was and continues to be a blessing in my life. I was able to live out a dream of playing college athletics, get a great education, meet my future wife, build lifelong friendships, and create countless memories. The culture at Carroll encourages excellence in all aspects of life, and being a part of that culture played a significant role in shaping the person I am today.”
For prospective students, Colin’s advice is simple: choose Carroll for the people and the culture.
