Two Carroll College Engineering Students Attend ASCE CI Student Days

Two Carroll College senior engineering students, Elly Schmeltzer (Civil Engineering, Broadfield Emphasis, graduating spring 2018) and Raymond Gomez (Civil Engineering, Environmental Emphasis, graduating spring 2018) were selected to attend CI Student Days, sponsored by the Construction Institute (CI) the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).

Elly and Raymond were among only 36 students selected from all engineering programs nationwide. The conference was held July 28 – August 1, 2017 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The program brings top engineering students from across the country together with potential employers who are seeking new talent. The events give students the tools they need to stand out in a competitive job market, while providing engineering recruiters with unique opportunities to get up close and personal with a stellar pool of candidates. The program included sessions on project delivery, estimating and scheduling, team building, and CI’s signature event, Speed Networking!—a variation on “speed dating”, during which company recruiters have the opportunity to spend up to 10 minutes with each small group of students, while rotating around the room to get to know all participants on a personal level. Finally, students participated in CI’s unique student competition, the CI Heavy Civil Engineering Team Challenge, where students teamed up to create a bid package for a real-world construction job, and present their proposal to construction professionals.

Elly and Ray said they worked with their teams long into the night for several days to prepare for their presentations, but it was worth it for the amazing experiences they received!
