Presidential COVID-19 Update: September 2, 2020

Marching Back Update Graphic

To the Parents and Guardians of Carroll College students,

Two weeks into fall semester and things are going well. In recent weeks, we have made progress in areas such as dining services, and the facilities team has put together some new outdoor seating areas that will benefit the campus beyond the current pandemic.

With the Labor Day weekend ahead, some students may be considering traveling. Please keep in mind that traveling increases the risk of the entire community as many areas have much higher incidence of COVID-19 than Lewis and Clark County, where case counts have remained relatively low.

If students can, we encourage them to stay and explore the Helena area this weekend. The weather is going to be beautiful and there are so many places locally to explore. In every direction, there are great hikes, places to kayak, fish, or just grab a picnic with friends. They can also check out some fun equipment from the C.A.M.P. Gear Room!

If students travel, remember:

  • Wash hands often for at least 20 seconds or use an at least 60% alcohol hand sanitizer.
  • Wear a face covering if traveling by air, bus or train.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
  • Avoid contact with others by maintaining a 6’ distance between yourself and others.
  • Pick up food at drive-throughs, curbside restaurant services or stores.

This is the best way to keep our community safe and healthy.

And finally, please remind your students – no bars, no house parties. Evidence continues to suggest that these are places where the virus spreads quickly, and it only takes one positive person to spread to dozens. These types of outbreaks continue to drive the virus. Our students have control over their own safety and we should all be responsible for the safety of our community. We trust in them to do the right thing.

As always, please remain safe and healthy,

John E. Cech, Ph.D., President
Carroll College Marching Back Task Force
