Carroll College Announces $3,000 “Rossiter Visit and Apply Grant” for Former Elementary Students Displaced by 2018 Flooding
Helena, MT—In a meaningful full-circle moment, Carroll College is proud to announce the launch of the Rossiter Visit and Apply Grant—a $3,000 renewable grant for students who attended Rossiter Elementary School and were temporarily relocated to the Carroll campus following the 2018 Helena Valley floods. Eligible students will receive the grant, renewable up to four years totaling $12,000, when they visit, apply to, and ultimately enroll at Carroll College.
When flooding from Ten Mile Creek forced Rossiter Elementary to close in May 2018, more than 470 students finished their school year on Carroll’s campus. Carroll classrooms became homerooms, the Campus Center served as the school cafeteria, and recesses filled the campus lawns. The community came together, and for a few weeks, those elementary students became honorary “Saints.”
Now, some of those same students are graduating high school seniors. In recognition of that shared history, Carroll is offering a special $3,000 renewable grant to any of those former Rossiter students who visit, apply and enroll at Carroll College.
“Handing out 'Honorary Saints' certificates to the Rossiter fifth graders was the very first thing I did as president of Carroll College back in the summer of 2018,” said Carroll College President Dr. John Cech, who is retiring at the end of June. “To now offer them this special grant as graduating seniors feels like a beautiful full-circle moment. They were part of our community then, and it would bring me great joy to see some of them return to campus as Carroll students.”
The grant is available to the 56 former Rossiter students graduating high school this year and will continue for the next cohort of seniors in 2026.
