(Helena, MT) – Carroll College has been awarded a $380,000 federal grant through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to strengthen security measures at two campus locations. The funding supports the college’s ongoing commitment to providing a safe and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
The funding is part of FEMA’s Nonprofit Security Grant Program, which helps nonprofit organizations make critical investments in safety and security infrastructure. The grant is administered through Montana Disaster and Emergency Services.
The award represents another important avenue of external funding that supports the Carroll experience. Alongside the generosity of alumni, donors, and private foundations, federal grants provide valuable resources to strengthen campus facilities, support student well-being, and facilitate institutional priorities.
The $380,000 award is divided equally between two Carroll locations:
Main Campus: Borromeo Hall ($190,000)
Funding will support the replacement of all residence room door locks in Borromeo Hall in order to improve access control and strengthen security for students living in the residence hall. A portion of the funding will also support campuswide security training to help faculty, staff, and students prepare for and respond to potential emergencies.
Carroll College Equine Center ($190,000)
At Carroll’s Equine Center on Lincoln Road, grant funding will support improvements to access control and security infrastructure, including lighting, video surveillance, and other protective measures.
Together, these investments build on Carroll’s ongoing efforts to enhance campus safety through improved lighting, camera technology, facility upgrades, and emergency preparedness.
The grant also demonstrates the value of pursuing funding opportunities beyond traditional philanthropic gifts. By securing competitive federal support, Carroll can make significant investments in campus infrastructure while directing other institutional resources toward academic programs, student services, and opportunities that enrich the student experience.
