Sigma Phi Iota Honors Society

Phi Sigma Iota (ΦΣΙ) is an honor society whose members are elected from among outstanding advanced (juniors and seniors) and graduate students of foreign languages and literature including Classics, comparative literature, philology, bilingual education, and applied linguistics. The primary objectives of this honorary are the recognition of remarkable ability and attainments in languages and literature and the promotion of a sentiment of amity between cultures with differing languages.

About Phi Sigma Iota

Phi Sigma Iota (ΦΣΙ) Iota recognizes outstanding accomplishment in the study or teaching of any of the academic fields related to foreign language, literature, or culture. These fields include not only modern foreign languages, but also Classics, Linguistics, Philology, Comparative Literature, Bilingual Education, Second Language Acquisition and other interdisciplinary programs with a significant foreign language component. Phi Sigma Iota is the highest academic honor in the field of foreign languages. There are approximately 180 chapters of Phi Sigma Iota at institutions of higher learning in the US and at American University in Paris, France. (
