Theatre Club Producing Light Us Up!: A Cabaret Fundraiser

HELENA – The Carroll College Theatre Club is holding a Cabaret Fundraiser in the Carroll College FLEX Theatre on April 2 from 7:00-9:00 pm, doors open at 6:30 pm.

First-Year Writing Award winners


First-Year Writing Award

Carroll’s Writing Center is excited to announce two winners of the 2021 First-Year Writing Award:  Chloe Jones and Michael Deguzman.

Chloe Jones is being recognized for her essay, “Reducing Human-Mountain Lion Conflict in Urban Areas,” a paper completed for her Core 110 class, “The Abstract Wild,” taught by Professor Stephanie Burkholder.  Judges praised Jones’s essay for its solid research, its organization, and its thoughtful, multipronged solution to a fascinating issue.  

Michael Deguzman is being recognized for his essay, “How Authentic Hawaiian Performance Can Assist in Restoring Hawaiian Culture.”  Deguzman wrote the paper as part of his Core 110 class “Thinking about Theatre,” taught by Professor Kim Shire.  Judges were impressed by the vigorous style and the clear, confident structure Deguzman employed to investigate a significant social problem.  
Both writers will receive a $250 scholarship and will have their essays published on our Writing Center website.  

If you are in Core 110 or ENWR 101 this year and have an excellent essay, please submit it to Dr. Jeff Morris, Director of the Writing Center, at  And if you need help with writing at any stage of the process, an appointment with The Writing Center can make anything you write more winning.
