Inderbir Bains

Hometown: Spokane, WA, Class of 2017

I was born and raised in the Bay Area in California in the city of San Jose. I still have a lot of family back in the Bay area. My brother and I are first ones in our immediate family to be born in the United States. Both of my parents were very young when they left their homes in Punjab, India to pursue a better quality of life for themselves as well as for their family. They had little education and knew barely any English. They both learned English thorough working their labor intensive jobs. Every since they came to this country they have worked so hard to get to where they are today. English is my second language since my parents speak Punjabi at home with me. I can also understand Hindi and Urdu as well. We moved to Spokane when I was about 9 years old. It was a very different environment that was a struggle for the first 3 years or so. I had been around more cultural variation in the Bay Area, this wasn't really evident in the Spokane. After growing up working alongside my parents I decided to come to Carroll as a pre-med student. I am majoring in Biochemistry and will double minor in Psychology and Ethics.

I'm the eldest of three and my parents are originally from Michoacán, Mexico. I'm currently a freshmen student pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. After college I'm planning to enter Medical School in order to pursue the career of a family physician.

Although I have a terrible habit of spacing out and being too quiet, I really enjoy meeting new people. In my free time I enjoy writing, reading and listening to different genres of music.
