Current Service Opportunities
Reed, Courteney, and Emily here, comin’ at ya with the first CPJ email of the year!
We are the Hunthausen Center for Peace and Justice, or CPJ for short: a student-run office that strives to promote the dignity of the human person through service. Now that you’re settling into your schedules, here are some awesome opportunities to get out and serve in our Helena Community!
Here’s a list of some opportunities we have right now:
The mission of The Friendship Center is to be a safe haven for those affected by domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking and to empower our community to flourish in relationships free from violence. They are looking to train volunteers to answer their Crisis Line later this fall. Please check this box if you want to be put on the contact list!
This shelter provides 24/7 emergency shelter for homeless individuals, serves three meals per day, and offers counseling, showers and laundry facilities. Groups going may serve dinner, fold clothing, and visit with the residents.
Good Samaritan Ministries:
Good Samaritan focuses on meeting the social, emotional, and physical needs of everyone. They need volunteers to help sort and receive donations at their thrift store. Date and time: to be determined.
Helena Food Share:
They are focused on serving our neighbors in need by providing food in a respectful and dignified way and by working with others to eliminate hunger in the greater Helena area. They are looking for weekly volunteers to help operate their food pantry. There are many shifts available throughout the week.
Meals on Wheels (RMDC):
Meals on Wheels operates to provide meals and combat senior citizen hunger and isolation. They currently need volunteers to deliver meals through the Helena area on a weekly and monthly basis. Interested people will be connected directly with Alona, who can help you get started!
Rocky Mountain Care Center:
This will be a weekly visit with nursing home residents to RMCC, a nursing home for the elderly and disabled located in downtown Helena. Students will have the opportunity to provide friendship and emotional support to residents. The service will be between a half hour to an hour per week on Wednesdays at 2pm or other times and dates as student availability dictates.
The Salvation Army is an international organization and Christian ministry that provides food and donation services to community members. They are looking for weekly volunteers from 1:30-3:30 on Thursdays to pick up their weekly donations from Starbucks and help organize them back at the Salvation Army.
Habitat for Humanity:
Habitat for Humanity aims to help build places for families to call home. They are looking to have volunteers help on their building site. People interested in serving here will be connected directly with Hope to get you started!
