Helena, Mont.- Carroll College has announced they will host the first Montana GOP Gubernatorial Primary Debate on Tuesday, November 26th in the Lower Carroll College Campus Center starting at 6:00 p.m. The debate will be moderated by Webb Brown, former President of the Montana State Chamber of Commerce. The first of ten Republican Gubernatorial debates will focus on Montana jobs and the economy. Attorney General Tim Fox and Senator Dr. Al Olszewski have accepted the debate invitation. Representative Greg Gianforte declined to participate due to a previous commitment with family to celebrate Thanksgiving and will be traveling that day.
"We are honored to participate in the debate process," stated Carroll College President, Dr. John Cech. "Hosting the debate is a perfect connection with Carroll College's vision to inspire and seek out ways to improve life, and lives all over the world. Statewide engagement is very important and has been during our 110 year history."
"As I said earlier this week, I am looking forward to the upcoming debate and having the opportunity to share my vision for Montana's economic future," Dr. Olszewski said. "It continues to be disappointing that Greg Gianforte is not attending. I am confident Tim Fox and I will have an excellent exchange of ideas and provide Montana citizens the opportunity to make a more informed choice for the Republican nominee for Governor in June of 2020."
"Our next governor should have the character and leadership to step up and share their vision and how they will protect conservative Montana values directly with the people,” Fox said. “Montanans are tired of candidates trying to buy elections. Debates provide an opportunity for voters to ask questions and be a part of our democratic process. I look forward to having a spirited debate with my friend Dr. Al about the issues important to Montana on November 26th.”
The Lee Montana Newspapers which include the Billings Gazette, Butte Montana Standard, Helena Independent Record, Missoulian and Ravalli Republic will livestream the debate over their digital platforms.
