Outdoor Pre-Orientation Trips
Wilderness backpacking, kayaking, fly fishing, rock climbing,mountain biking, stand up paddle boarding... choose your adventure! These pre-orientation, multi-day trips are meant to be a great way for any first-year 2021 fall semester students to get to know some of their classmates, explore the natural beauty of Montana, challenge themselves, learn a few things about transitioning to college, and have a TON of fun along the way!
Students will arrive on campus August 17, and leave for their respective trips 8 a.m. the following morning on August 18. Students will return to campus on August 22 ready to meet the rest of their classmates. The general new student orientation will take place August 22-24 and classes begin on August 25.
Trips and Cost
Kayak the Blackfoot River
Difficulty/fitness level: Easy
Trip limit: 8
Pre-requisites: Strong swimming ability and comfort around water
Wilderness Backpacking Adventure
Difficulty/fitness level: Moderate to Strenuous
Trip Limit: 13
Pre-requisites: Moderate fitness level. Participants are expected to hike 4-9 miles per day with a backpack through elevation changes.
Explore MT: Rock climbing, mountain biking, and lake SUP boarding
Difficulty/fitness level: Moderate
Trip limit: 13
Pre-requisites: Swimming ability and comfort around water. All-day activities are beginner-friendly. Instruction is provided and no prior experience is needed.
