Senior Payroll Accountant

Description: Carroll College, a Catholic liberal arts college located in Helena, Montana is seeking a self-motivated individual to fill the position of Senior Payroll Accountant.  This person will serve as a team member in the Business Office, and is directly responsible for processing the College’s bi-monthly payrolls.  The Senior Payroll Accountant will manage and coordinate all aspects of the College’s payroll function for 1,000 + employees annually; research and interpret current federal, state, and international employment tax laws, regulations, and policies to ensure compliance.  This position is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality of payroll information; coordinating and serving as liaison for payroll-related audits; managing the college’s payroll tax filing and reporting process; and reviewing and analyzing financial information, preparing complex journal entries, preparing monthly work papers, processing all payrolls within structured deadlines, and ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and College guidelines.   The Senior Payroll Accountant also serves as a resource to student, faculty, and staff employees and must provide accurate and timely guidance and possess a high level of interpersonal skills.

Qualifications:  The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field and 3-4 years progressively responsible work-related experience with preference given for individuals with extensive experience with payroll laws and regulations.   Strong customer service skills are required for this position.
