ABET Accreditation Information - Civil Engineering

Carroll's Civil Engineering program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org. As part of the accreditation process, Carroll College makes certain information about its civil engineering program publically available on its web page. This information includes:

Program Educational Objectives and Student Outcomes*

The program educational objectives of the Carroll College Civil Engineering program are to prepare graduates who will:

  1. Find employment in their chosen fields and enjoy successful and rewarding professional careers.
  2. Seek and engage in lifelong learning to grow and develop in their chosen professions and/or continue their education to earn a master's or a doctoral degree.
  3. Demonstrate leadership, especially through good teamwork and effective communication skills.
  4. Conduct themselves as ethical and responsible professionals, always mindful of the safety, environmental, economic, public health, and aesthetic impacts of their work.

* A revision to the second PEO was approved by the Engineering Advisory Board on September 22, 2017. The PEOs above are the revised version, which will differ from the version of the PEOs as published in the 2017-2018 Carroll College Catalog.

The program has the following documented student outcomes that support the program educational objectives. Attainment of these outcomes prepares graduates to enter the professional practice of engineering. 

  1. An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics
  2. An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors
  3. An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences
  4. An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts
  5. An ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives
  6. An ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions
  7. An ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies
