The Once & Future Literary Festival

The senior English Capstone students—Marissa Kuka, Emma Putman, Caleb Wallis, and Nicole Williams—are proud to announce the 2022 Carroll College Undergraduate Literary Festival which will take place Thursday, November 17.

Presenters, along with the Capstone members, are the winners of the festival’s three inaugural literary prizes:

  • 1st place in the college category, as chosen by the Capstone students, goes to Greyson Gold for his essay, “The Wisdom of Wizards,” for which he will be awarded a $250 gift card to Montana Book Company.
  • 2nd place in the college category goes to Madeline De Leo for her long poem, “These Dreams Belong to the Heavens,” for which she will be awarded a $125 gift card to Montana Book Company. 
  • And, the high school prize goes to Fiona Kuntz of Helena High School for her poetry series Painting and other Poems, for which she will be awarded a $125 gift card to Montana Book Company.

  • Presenter 1: Nicole Williams, reading from her meta memoir Feeding the Family
  • Presenter 2: Madeline De Leo, reading her long-form poem “These Dreams Belong to the Heavens,” awarded the literary festival’s Second Place Collegiate Prize
  • Presenter 3: Marissa Kuka, reading from her pedagogical essay “Feminism in the Classroom: The Imperative Need for Student Success”

6:30-8:30 p.m. Trinity Hall Lounge (Readings start at 7:00 p.m.)

MC: Nicole Williams; Session Attendant: Marissa Kuka

  • Presenter 1: Fiona Kuntz, reading from her poems Painting and Other Poems, awarded the literary festival’s High School Prize
  • Presenter 2: Emma Putman, reading from her essay “Banning Creativity”
  • Presenter 3: Caleb Wallace, reading from his translation of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Part I
  • Presenter 4: Greyson Gray, reading from his essay “Wisdom of Wizards,” awarded the literary festival’s First Place Collegiate Prize

Snacks and refreshments will be provided at both sessions. Arrive early to meet and greet! This event is open to everyone so we hope you can join us!
