02/19/2018 - 7:00pm to 8:30pm

Vickie B. Sullivan is a Cornelia M. Jackson Professor of Political Science who teaches and studies political thought and philosophy at Tufts University. An author of books on Machiavelli, Shakespeare, and Montesquieu, she is an expert on the political thought of early modernity, its relationship to revealed religion, and the genesis of English republicanism. Her lecture, entitled "Montesquieu and the History of Toleration," will be held on Monday, February 19, at 7:00pm in Trinity Lounge.

Free and open to the public.

This lecture is part of a spring lecture series featuring internationally prominent academics, each of whom will address the theme of "Religious Toleration and the American Experiment." This program, sponsored by the Apgar Foundation, will feature three lectures on theoretical founding of religious toleration, the U.S. Constitution, and religious practice in the early United States. Part of a yearlong program by the same title, this lecture series will hold events on February 19, March 15, and April 11 of 2018.

Sponsored by Carroll College's Constitutional Studies Center.
