Special Olympics Horse Painting

Horse Painting with Special Olympics Club Graphic

04/13/2022 - 4:30pm to 6:30pm

Come and join the Special Olympics club for a memory of a lifetime! We're heading to the Carroll College ANZ Horse Stables for an amazing horse painting event.

Is horse painting dangerous?
No! The paints used are non-toxic and can be washed off of the skin (whether of human beings or of horses) with relative ease.

Why horse painting and Special Olympics?
It is our belief that this event could have a myriad of benefits for persons with special needs, including (but not limited to) the following:

  1. Horse painting helps to foster community.
  2. Horse painting has an educational component, as it has been practiced by Native American tribes for centuries.
  3. Horse painting is an inclusive event (anyone can come and participate!)
  4. Horse painting will help to build dexterity and hand-eye coordination in participating athletes.
  5. Horse painting is therapeutic (working with animals and engaging in an artistic form of expression).
  6. Horse painting provides opportunity for Special Olympics athletes to get out of their comfort zones and experience the world in a different way.

Who will lead the event?
The Special Olympics club at Carroll College, in partnership with the Anthrozoology Department and Dr. Marie Suthers (who will supply the horses and give some educational programming around handling the animals and on the practice of Horse Painting).

Interested in joining us?
Email Cara White at cwhite@carroll.edu so we can know you're coming, and she'll let you know how exactly to get to the stables.
