McFetridge Named Outstanding Accounting Educator of the Year

Via the MSCPA - The Montana Society of CPAs (MSCPA) is proud to announce Mel McFetridge, CPA as the 2015 Jack Kempner Outstanding Educator Award recipient.

This award honors an educator who is distinguished for excellence in classroom teaching, motivating students and educational innovation and contributions to the accounting profession, as demonstrated by active involvement in professional activities such as participation in professional accounting organizations.

McFetridge holds one of the most interesting curriculum vitae of any Montana professor.  He earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado. He became a CPA in 1978 after teaching at Central Wyoming College beginning in 1973. He was hired at Montana State University College of Business in September 1978 and became the Associate Dean in 1993. In 2001 McFetridge became Assistant Dean at Zayed University in the United Arab Emirates at the invitation of former MSU Dean Michael Owen. Upon his return to the States he began teaching for Carroll College.

Mel was nominated by his fellow Carroll accounting educator Dr. Belle Marie. Dr. Marie stated in her nomination of McFetridge, "Mel is most sincere in his desire to prepare students for life-long learning and for successful careers in accounting. He actively participated in connecting students with accounting professionals. I have been most impressed by Mel’s rapport with his students."

McFetridge rose through the ranks and served as president of MSCPA in 1999-2000. He has a number of published articles in a variety of accounting and business journals and has an active history serving the profession.

Mel McFetridge was presented the Jack Kempner Outstanding Educator Award at MSCPA’s 102nd Annual Conference on June 18th in Kalispell.
