$200,000 Awarded in Simperman/Corette Scholarships for 2018/19

Through the enduring generosity of Roy F. Simperman, class of 1962, Carroll College was able to award $200,000 in scholarships this week to seventeen deserving and grateful students through the Elsie P. Corette Memorial Scholarship and the Roy F. Simperman Science Scholarships.

Seven students from Montana, who intend to pursue medical school upon graduation, were the recipients of the 2018-2019 Elsie P. Corette Memorial Scholarship. Since 1973, approximately 181 Corette Scholarships have been conferred, totaling nearly $1,107,000, with a large majority of recipients going on to become medical doctors.  

2018-2019 Corette Scholarship recipients are: Kylee Bailey, junior biochemistry/molecular biology major, Shelby; Paul Wilson, junior chemistry major, Missoula; Nathan Downey, sophomore biology major, Helena; Trevor Eickman, sophomore biology major, Helena; William "Bridger" Everett, sophomore chemistry & health science major, Anaconda; Jazmine Townsend, sophomore biology major, Bigfork; and Courtney Schroeder, sophomore health science major, Livingston.

Eight nursing students received the 2018-2019 Roy F. Simperman Nursing Scholarship along with two math and science majors being awarded the Simperman Math and Science Scholarship.

In the nine years that the Simperman Math, Science and Nursing Scholarships have existed at Carroll, $748,500 has been provided to 63 students.

2018-2019 Simperman Science Scholarship recipients are:  Madison Robischon, junior nursing major, Townsend;   Natasha Chamberlain, sophomore nursing major, Fort Peck; Ashley Walker, sophomore nursing major, Libby; Katie Grenier, sophomore nursing major, Billings; Christine Connolly, sophomore nursing major, Kalispell; Olivia Burgmeier, sophomore nursing major, Hall; Holly Wilson, sophomore nursing major, Corvallis; Melissa Patterson, sophomore nursing major, Helena; Peyton Twete, junior biochemistry/molecular major, Whitefish; and Justin Marsh, junior Engineering Mechanics major, Plentywood.

Over the years, the Simperman Math, Science and Nursing Scholarships and the Corette Scholarships have provided over $1,812,868 in aid to deserving students. This year’s average award was $11,000

These scholarship funds are generously supported by Roy F. Simperman of Mercer Island, Wash. Simperman is the chairman and chief executive officer of Semaphore Corporation in Seattle.

These scholarships make a tremendous difference in the lives of our students.  Carroll is forever grateful to Mr. Simperman for recognizing the value of a Carroll education and supporting our students in such a generous and substantial manner through these annual scholarships.
