Background reading: Chapter 8
of Studying Philosophy: “How to Write
a Good Philosophy Paper” and the other chapters references in that one.
Also: George the Office Manager (Handout from Class, 9.7.06)
Instructions: Choose either (a) or (b) and write a 3-5 page argumentative paper.
a. Prove that George’s lies
are morally justifiable.
b. Prove that George’s lies are morally unjustifiable.
Assignment: Remembering the basic point of a piece of philosophy writing, to persuade you of something, (Studying Philosophy, pg 63), write an argumentative essay that accomplishes the directions above.
Your paper should exhibit correct understanding of the ethical issues surrounding lying and honesty, as we discussed in class.
You should consider arguments against your position as well as arguments for your position.
Length of this paper: 3 to 5, double-space typed, pages should be enough to do it well.
