Welcome. You are joining a vibrant and academically focused group of students here at Carroll, and we are excited to have you join us. We hope that these pages will help answer any questions you may have during your first year, as well as provide you with information about questions you didn’t know you had!
If you can’t find the answers you need, please contact Cindy Greiman, the Director of New Student Services and Advising. She is located in Room 215 O’Connell. You can reach her by phone at 447-5434 or through E-mail at cgreiman -is-at- carroll -dot- edu.
Carroll offers many academic resources that will help make your first year successful. If you have questions about one of your classes, speaking with your instructor is an excellent first step. Your academic advisor can also be a great resource. If you don’t know who to ask, or if you just have questions in general about academic issues, start with Cindy Greiman (see info above).
Paying for college is always an area of interest for students. The links in the Highlights area will help you with the information you need about tuition, financial aid, scholarships, and finding a job on campus.
Carroll provides Student Life staff to assist students with living in campus housing, getting involved in activities, participating in athletics, exploring their faith, volunteering in the community and learning more about themselves. The college maintains a health center, counseling services office and career services and testing. Each fall a new student orientation program is offered to introduce new students to student services and student activities. As a residential college, Carroll is committed to creating a living-learning environment that enhances the educational goals of our students.
Carroll understands that the first year of college can present challenges to both students and parents. We know that parents remain closely involved with their student’s life and we encourage parents to communicate with us about any issues or questions that may arise during the year. Cindy Greiman, the Director of New Student Services, is the person to contact when you have a question or concern but are not quite sure whom to call.
Carroll continuously reviews their Incident Management Protocols, which are revised annually resulting in a new edition being published for each academic year.
In preparation of the upcoming 2007-2008 academic year edition of the Incident Management Protocols, Carroll conducted a campus-wide exercise of the "Security Lock Down of Campus Buildings" during the last week of May. The goal was to allow key personnel to rehearse each of their roles in the protocol and to identify areas that need to be corrected. This protocol is currently being revised based upon feedback on the exercise.
With the recent tragedy at Virginia Tech, it is important for you to also know that Carroll has a "Dangerous and Disruptive Student Policy" that has been in effect for the past two years. The purpose of the policy is to ensure students receive the assistance they may need (mental health and otherwise) due to negative behaviors exhibited or threats made. This policy has been implemented with positive results a number of times the past two years. The "Dangerous and Disruptive Student Policy" is located on pages 115-118 of the Student Handbook.
