REQUIRED IMMUNIZATIONS (Deadline is prior to attending orientation.)
RECOMMENDED IMMUNIZATIONS
The following immunizations are not required but you are strongly encouraged to have these shots before attending Carroll College. The shots are available through the Wellness Center at the beginning of the school year.
How many credits is an average course load?
Most full-time students take between 15 and 17 credits per semester. In general, it’s probably a good idea to take a lighter load the first semester of the freshman year.
Can students change their schedules after they’ve registered?
Students can drop or add a class without a “W” appearing on the transcript during the first week of each semester. After the first week, students can withdraw from a class until the mid-point of the class has been reached.
What is the Alpha Seminar?
Alpha Seminar is a three credit class that is required of all freshmen. Its purpose is to introduce students to what it means to be at a Catholic liberal arts college. The class includes an interdisciplinary project along with a series of readings that incorporate instuction and practice in critical reading, writing and discussion. Each class is limited to 16 students, and the instructor of the class is the students’ advisor for their first semester.
What are CORE classes?
CORE requirements include courses in Composition, Communication, Fine Arts, History, Literature, Mathematics, Science, Philosophy, the Social Sciences and Theology. They are required of all students, regardless of major.
Is it important that my son or daughter has decided on a major by the fall of the freshman year?
No. Most majors at Carroll can be completed in four years even if your son or daughter doesn’t decide on them until the end of the first year. Using the first semester to explore options is a good idea. Your student’s advisor and instructors can help in the decision process, as well as Carroll’s Office of Career Services.
Grades:
What if my son or daughter is having difficulty in a class?
Meeting with the class instructor is always the best first step. The instructor can then refer your student to the Academic Resource Center if tutoring help is needed.
Midterm Grades and Midterm Review
The Office of New Student Services mails parents their student’s midterm grades during the first year if the student has signed a release allowing this. The Director reviews midterm grades, and assists students who need assistance on an individual basis.
New Student Progress Report
The New Student Progress Report is used to solicit feedback from faculty on the progress of new students early in the first semester. The form is completed by instructors, and includes information on the students’ class attendance, participation, writing and math skills.
All questions about breaks, finals, and other dates can be answered by viewing the Academic Calendar
