Nursing (BSN)

Details

It takes a special kind of individual to dedicate their life to healing and bringing comfort to others. Nurses truly are on the front line of healthcare. They bring a well-rounded skillset and knowledge base that enables them to respond to a wide range of problems while at the same time understanding that every patient is unique. And when nurses complement their healthcare training with the depth that a liberal arts education delivers, they bring an added perspective of the human condition that enhances the care they ultimately deliver.

About the Program

The Carroll College Nursing program curriculum is designed to meet the licensure requirements in Montana. State nursing regulatory boards outline standards for safe nursing care and issue licenses to practice nursing, which may vary by state. Students with the intent of returning or moving to any state other than Montana prior to taking their NCLEX should be aware of the unique requirements for that state.

Prior to enrollment, students should review the Carroll College Professional Licensure (NC-SARA) to determine whether this program meets the license by examination requirements in a specific state. For specific state agencies offering nursing licensure, please see the professional licensure directory for nursing.

Career Opportunities

Demand continues to grow across Montana and the United States for educated and highly skilled nursing professionals. The Nursing Program at Carroll College educates, trains, and prepares students to take and pass the national licensure exams (NCLEX) and enter the workforce ready to work and make a difference. The NCLEX exam is a national test and students that have passed will not need to retest.

Additionally, Montana is one of 39 states who belong to the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC). "The NLC increases access to care while maintaining public protection at the state level. Under the NLC, nurses can practice in other NLC states, without having to obtain additional licenses." Information about the NLC and the participating states can be found at ncsbn.org/compacts.htm. When a student nurse graduates from Carroll College’s Nursing program and passes the National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX) in Montana, he or she can legally work in Montana as a Registered Nurse as well as 38 other states, given a multi-state license application was submitted. See additional information available for nursing licensure from NCSBN Nurse Licensure Compact.
