Project Unit: FOOD, GEOGRAPHY AND NUTRITION

Activity #1: Draw a map of Italy, and indicate on your map the main cities of Rome and the basic topography of the country. Then choose three cities that are in fairly different kind of regions, find out the main foods of those cities, and show how the region is responsible for the foods. (Alternate, figure out the main foods grown/raised in a region, and then check to see what main foods are eaten in the cities.

Activity #2: How healthy was the Roman diet? Did their diet affect their physiology? To answer this question, choose some different regions, and compare how the people differed in their physiognomy and their diets. Then research the connections between diet and physique, and draw some conclusions about the Roman diet.

Activity #3: Did the Romans get obese? Why or why not?
