About the Workshops:

Summon Workshop

The Summon Discovery Interface is the single search box visible from the Corette Library  home page. Designed to search across all library resources, it is a powerful search tool that some claim “does everything.” Get the most from your Summon searches by learning the best way to configure your search terms, find full text, locate books and articles from “citation only” results, and limit to various format types.

WorldCat

Use WorldCat to locate and borrow known-items. Conduct sophisticated searches for books and archival materials using WorldCat. All levels welcome.

Junior Honors Thesis

Seminar is geared toward juniors planning to complete a senior honors thesis. Topics covered will include discussion of paperwork deadlines and library-related resources such as interlibrary loan, article-on-demand and citation indexes.

Senior Honors Thesis

Your senior honors thesis is due on April 1st. Come to the library for a demonstration of how to split and merge your signature page into the PDF; how to remove a page you no longer want; view thesis samples; write your abstract and insert it in your document and how to submit the final thesis. Have a title page peer review so no appalling typos exist or remain!

PubMed

Intimidated by PubMed?  This workshop will show you how to confidently navigate through the 23 million citations to biomedical and life science literature to find the information you need.  This resource is used in many Carroll courses, including those in nursing, health sciences, biology, and psychology.  Topics covered will include basic and advanced searching, MeSH terms, and citation/search management using personal accounts.

CINAHL

CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature) is one of the premier databases for students and professionals in the nursing and allied health fields. CINAHL indexes over 5,000 journal titles with 1.300 of those available in full-text. Additional resources available through CINAHL include evidence-based care sheets, disease and condition quick lessons, and research instrument descriptions.  This workshop is designed to go beyond basic search strategies, and will cover advanced search techniques, how to use subject headings, evidence-based care resources, and citation/search management using personal accounts.

Web of Science (and Humanities…..and Social Sciences….)

The Web of Science isn’t just for those in science fields—this information resource includes content in the humanities and social sciences as well.  Learn how to strategically search this citation database to identify scholarly literature on your topic.  Cited reference searching is a primary feature of Web of Science, and this workshop will cover how to use it to discover additional information relevant to your area of research.  Basic and advanced search strategies, creating a citation map, and citation/search management will also be covered.  With the Science Citation Index, the Arts & Humanities Citation Index and the Social Science Citation Index, the Web of Science is an essential information resource for all Carroll students and faculty.

Zotero

Use Zotero to keep track of your articles, generate your citations, manage your paper, and build your bibliography—on the fly, automatically, in any style you choose.
